Here is a way to work around that and save huge money!
Bonnie Sainsbury, Left Brain Media and Reset Mobile Marketing, and I had a conversation this morning at the "HOBN Monday Morning" meeting. Here is what Bonnie taught me:
There are two providers now in Canada that Bonnie knows of, Mobilicity and Wind Mobile.ca (check them out). They both have unlimited data, talk and text plans. You can also get unlimited data & text international and North America long distance plans. When we went online this morning, the Wind Mobile.ca was $29/mo. for unlimited talk, text and data for 1 year. You only need to purchase the plan...not a phone. Now here is what you do...
Their software is compatible with T-Mobile 3G Android, Windows and Blackberry.
What you do is go down to the U.S.A. and purchase a TMobile prepaid phone. Then you exchange the chip that you purchased in Canada. Voila! You have connectivity to the USA w/o paying the huge data roaming and long distance charges from Rogers. You simply arrange to only run the minimum possible on your current contract, just because you are on a contract. You don't even have to use your current phone, if you don't want to, but it will be there for you if you need it. You can now use your Android phone at a fraction of what you are currently paying.
