It's a labour of love and also very likely the best 'Canadian-born'
flamenco you've ever seen. I hope you will consider it as a way to inspire passion and creativity this weekend!
She has some truly great artists involved, including my mentor Oscar Nieto in a rare appearance and
dancers/musicians from Calgary/Victoria as well as Vancouver. The live music will be superb, including cello,
Celtic harp,
East Coast fiddle and of course, flamenco guitar!
I hope you can make it, and pass this along to your colleagues and
friends as well!

Raices y Alas: Colores is a bold and edgy exploration of the
traditional roots of flamenco and how they can evolve into wings by
taking more contemporary risks. The evenings feature the best flamenco
dance soloists and musicians in Western Canada performing original
works. They include Kasandra La China and Oscar Nieto, the artistic
directors of Mozaico Flamenco Dance Theatre, and Rosanna Terracciano
of Calgary who is developing an international reputation as one of the
foremost contemporary flamenco dancers in Canada.
Artistic Director and Producer of Raices y Alas, Andrea Williams, is
becoming known locally as a contemporary flamenco choreographer
thinking 'out of the box'. Having studied extensively the traditional
forms in Spain, she is motivated by a passion to provide venues for
artists to present experimental works that challenge the 'flamenco
canon'. Indeed, many of the soloists feel that Raices y Alas is
Vancouver's only venue for their riskier works.
With live music accompaniment including cello, guitar, Celtic harp,
and East Coast fiddle, it's sure to be one of the most innovative,
culturally diverse, and beautiful dance performances you've seen.6 months ago- Monika Becker likes this.
