I too choose Blenz over other coffee shops for meetings to support that member because I've grown to know and trust the member. I refer all my contacts to Maple Leaf Storage if they have storage needs for the same reason. I look first to services within HOBN to see if there's a fit for my contacts' various needs. However, I don't necessarily send business to HOBN members if I haven't even had a personal connection with and a conversation about their business, what makes it unique, etc. This is one of the things I prefer about HOBN over some of the other, more 'structured' business networking 'cliques' where there is pressure to refer internally, regardless of business preference. If I had a business or personal relationship with a cobbler, for example, and a different cobbler joined HOBN, I would expect not to feel obligated to bring all of my business to the HOBN cobbler simply for the fact of their membership. I would first need to be shown that their services matched or exceeded those of my prior loyalty before considering the switch. My solidarity and support for HOBN'ers comes in the form of making time to meet one on one to learn more about their business and services, with the intention of becoming comfortable referring my valued contacts to them. Good topic.2 months ago
